A joint team has conducted a raid at a warehouse owned by the father-in-law of popular content creator Salman Muqtadir in Gulshan, Dhaka.
The raid was conducted from 10:30pm on Thursday (October 2) to 4:30am on Friday by officials from the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate, Department of Narcotics Control and SRB.
Four warehouses of the company, Toss Bond Private Limited, were sealed during the operation.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) public relations office confirmed the matter on Friday morning. It also confirmed that the warehouse is owned by Salman Muqtadir’s father-in-law.
According to the NBR, the joint team found serious irregularities during the initial inspection of the warehouse.
The company is owned by Nur Islam, his wife Sheila Islam and their daughter Tasnim Islam.
The company has approval to operate two warehouses. However, during the inspection, officials found that goods were being stored in four warehouses. This means two additional unauthorised warehouses were being used outside the approved facilities.
The NBR said all four warehouses were sealed to prevent the transfer or removal of duty-free goods imported under bond facilities from the unauthorised warehouses and to facilitate a proper investigation.
The investigation and detailed verification are ongoing. The NBR said further details will be disclosed after completion of the investigation.
