Bangladesh Trial:
The International Crimes Tribunal will deliver its verdict on Tuesday (June 30) in the crimes against humanity case against Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President Hasanul Haq Inu, involving eight charges, including the killing of six people in Kushtia during the July Mass Uprising.
The verdict will be delivered by a judicial panel of International Crimes Tribunal-2, headed by its Chairman Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, on Tuesday.
Earlier, on May 14, the High Court reserved the case for judgment after both sides concluded their arguments, keeping it pending for a verdict on any day (CAV).
On that day, Prosecutors Faruk Ahmed, Moinul Karim and Abdus Sobhan Tarfder, among others, appeared for the prosecution before the tribunal. On the other hand, senior lawyer Mansurul Haque Chowdhury concluded the defence arguments on behalf of Inu.
The defence presented its arguments over a total of nine days. During the hearings, the defence raised various legal points and also claimed that Inu was not a member of parliament during the July Mass Uprising in 2024.
Mansurul Haque said Inu had no involvement in the killing of the six people in Kushtia. He said witnesses in the case had also acknowledged that Inu was not present in Kushtia at the time of the killings.
It may be recalled that on August 5, 2024, amid the July-August movement, gunfire was opened on students and members of the public at various locations in Kushtia town. The victims were identified as worker Ashraful Islam, Suruj Ali Babu, students Abdullah Al Mustakin and Usama, businessman Bablu Farazi and employee Yusuf Sheikh. Many other innocent people were also injured.
Following the incidents, a case was filed against Inu before the International Crimes Tribunal. Later, based on the investigation agency’s report, the prosecution submitted a formal charge sheet against him containing eight charges.
