‘Ei Mon Tomake Dilam’ remains one of the most unforgettable and immensely popular songs in the history of Bangladeshi cinema. Legendary Bangladeshi singer Sabina Yasmin originally sang the song for the 1982 film Manasi. The song remains deeply embedded in the emotions and memories of generations of Bangladeshis. After 44 years, Sabina Yasmin has sung the song once again for a film. With a new musical arrangement, she has recorded it for the film Dum.

The original lyrics of ‘Ei Mon Tomake Dilam’ were written by legendary Bangladeshi lyricist, composer, producer and director Gazi Mazharul Anwar, while the music was composed by Anwar Parvez. The newly created version for Dum retains the title ‘Ei Mon Tomake Dilam’, but includes some new lyrics written by Tanmoy Parvez. The new arrangement has been directed by Arafat Mohsin Nidhi.

The song was recorded at a studio in the capital on Wednesday afternoon (March 11). Momin Biswas has lent his voice alongside Sabina Yasmin in the new version.

Speaking about the project during a break from the recording session, Sabina Yasmin said, “I am doing this because I liked this new song. Besides, I really enjoy working with newcomers.”

After completing the recording, she also praised the performances of Dum actors Afran Nisho and Pooja Cherry and extended her best wishes to everyone involved with the film.

Explaining the relevance of using the song in the film, director Redwan Rony said, “‘Dum’ is a film about a Bangladeshi story, about ordinary people rising up, and it is an emotional film. We wanted to include a song that could touch all kinds of emotions. ‘Ei Mon Tomake Dilam’ is no longer just a song; it is connected with the emotions, love, memories, joys and sorrows of an entire nation. Dum is also like that—a story that will touch the audience in many different ways.”

Shahriar Shakil, Managing Director of SVF Alpha-i Entertainment, the film’s producer, spoke about how the idea of using the song in Dum emerged and eventually led to the recording session. The idea came up while they were planning a romantic song for the film, and the project began from there.

Music director Arafat Mohsin Nidhi believes creating a new song incorporating elements of such a timeless classic was a challenging task. He said, “It is a pleasure for me to get the opportunity to work with one of the artists whose songs I grew up listening to. When Sabina Yasmin said she liked the song, that was a great achievement for me.”

For young singer Momin Biswas, who has lent his voice alongside Sabina Yasmin, the experience has been nothing short of a dream come true.
