The International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided to replace Bangladesh with Scotland in the upcoming T20 World Cup, according to cricket portal Cricbuzz and cricket website ESPNcricinfo.

After Bangladesh objected to travelling to India for the tournament, the ICC gave the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) a 24-hour deadline several days ago. When the BCB failed to change its position within the stipulated time, the ICC made its final decision on Saturday morning (January 24).

According to Cricbuzz, ICC Chief Executive Sanjog Gupta informed member boards in a letter that some of Bangladesh's demands were inconsistent with the ICC's policies. As the BCB did not comply with the ICC's decision, another country was invited to replace Bangladesh. Scotland was subsequently invited to participate in the tournament.

A copy of the letter was sent to BCB President Aminul Islam. The ICC also formally invited Cricket Scotland to take part. However, Cricket Scotland had not issued an official response at the time of publication.

Scotland's recent performances and current ranking—14th in the T20 rankings—were taken into consideration when selecting them for the tournament.

Scotland will replace Bangladesh in Group C. They will play the West Indies on February 7, Italy on February 9 and England on February 14 in Kolkata. They will then face Nepal in Mumbai on February 17.

According to ICC sources, Bangladesh had been given an opportunity to reconsider its position, and the ICC had maintained regular communication with the BCB. However, Bangladesh has now been excluded from the World Cup after seeking a venue change on security grounds—a move described as unprecedented.
